Writing and Editing
Being a ghostwriter is an interesting
bit of business.
By definition, I cannot tell you
what I have ghostwritten. The
Merriam-Webster dictionary says
that, as a ghostwriter, I am someone
who "writes for another who is the
presumed author."
GHOSTWRITING SERVICES
Recently I talked to a man who has the heart of a
woman. He'd had a heart attack and had received a
woman's heart as a transplant. More than once, he
had been expected to die. By his own admission,
miracles kept him alive.
Now, years later, he speaks on behalf of the
American Heart Association with an energy and
passion for life that can inspire the coldest soul.
I met a nine-year-old girl who had been born with
a heart valve missing. She'd had three heart
surgeries. Her simple goal was to gain enough
strength to cross the monkey bars on the
playground jungle gym the way other children did.
Over time, she worked in the cardiac
rehabilitation exercise center at a local hospital. She
now runs and plays and keeps up with the other
kids. Like the man with the heart transplant, she can
warm a cold soul.
Billions of us walk a planet worn by wind, water,
fire, neglect and human caprice. Beneath the layers
of rock, at the heart of the planet, is a fiery core.
Maybe at the heart of many people on this planet is
a fiery core too, burning with dreams, passions,
longings and hope.
We have plenty of reminders of how cold and
callous life can be. If we can sculpt a moment of
time like a valentine, though, we can learn from the
man with the woman's heart and the girl with a
missing valve.
They haven't been able to take their hearts for
granted. Because they haven't, they have learned
how precious life can be, each healthy breath, each
moment.
And just by being who they are, they show that,
down deep, in our heart of hearts, there is hope.
In addition to ghostwriting,
I have contributed to such
publications as Eye of the

So you may have to take it on good faith that
I have written vigorously, anonymously, for
someone somewhere. The ghostwritten people
cannot serve as recommendations for me because
that would blow their cover.
That's okay. That's part of the agreement.
I have seen my byline in newspapers, magazines
and on books many times. It still feels great to see
my name out there, but what I enjoy even more
now is helping someone sculpt his or her vision.
BEST MOMENTS IN GHOSTING AND
EDITING: The initial consultations; the
development; the final draft, ready for publication;
the publication itself.
I may ghostwrite, but it's not spooky stuff. It's
real. It's fun. It's dynamic. I have written stories
by and about educators, authors, environ-
mentalists, government workers, mayors, shop
owners and many others. I write quickly,
accurately, objectively, working at all times to
unearth the luminous story within each person.
